James graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an MSc in High-Performance Computing and from the University of Aberdeen with a BSc (Hons) in Physics. He has previously worked at Daresbury Laboratory (UK Research and Innovation) optimizing applications for national supercomputing resources and developing quantum computing applications for logistics. At Zapata Computing, James uses his knowledge of classical and quantum computing to help clients understand where quantum computing will fit into their business.
Quantum computing is the future of computing, having worked in HPC I have always wondered “what’s the next step?”. We’re still in the early stages of the technology and there is the opportunity to make a big impact.
I’m looking forward to seeing how quantum computing will impact materials discovery. I am also curious about what will happen the day a quantum computer factors the first RSA key and how we will respond to it – luckily we still have a long way to go before then!
